Tackle Gum Disease While in Braces: How Does it Help? Las Vegas Orthodontist

Orthodontic treatment is the best prevention shield against gum diseases. However most choose to ignore straightening their crooked or crowded teeth. Some are apprehensive of orthodontic treatment. And some are misguided to believe that braces could lead to disorders like Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. Tackle Gum Disease While in Braces: How Does it Help? Las Vegas Orthodontist

Let me clear the air. Studies have found that there is no relationship between such disorders and braces. Why is orthodontic procedure so essential?

How Does Braces Help in Dealing with Gum Diseases?

Let me start with a simple fact: Those with properly aligned teeth are less vulnerable to gum diseases.

Snug fit gums are like snug fit helmets – When you buy a helmet to protect your skull, what is the first thing you look out for – Is it a snug fit.

So is the case with your gum line. You do not want to have hidden castles in between your teeth for plaque to loot and terrorize. You do not obviously want bacteria to infest those empty pockets. Hence before it is late, it is essential to go through an orthodontic procedure and correct the alignment.

But let us proceed with caution. During an ongoing Las Vegas orthodontic procedure, one is however susceptible to gum infections. This is because the braces can trap food debris and the normal brush won’t be effective to remove the plaque. This can then lead to conditions like gingivitis. If you already had gum trouble before you got started with the orthodontic procedure, the gum disease might intensify.

So how do you tackle gum issues while in braces?

Use a soft bristled toothbrush and carefully clean your teeth and gum line regularly.

Also do not forget to floss using an orthodontic floss.

Rinse your mouth regularly.

The idea is to maintain proper dental hygiene if you want to tackle your gum issues.

Orthodontic procedures become very effective if the teeth and gums are clean. So it is important to pay attention to your gums and teeth if you are thinking about going forward for an orthodontic procedure.

Book an appointment with your Las Vegas orthodontist as soon as you see the first warning signs.
