Fixed Appliance Treatment: How Can Las Vegas Orthodontists Help?

Fixed appliances are teeth correction tools that will remain inside the mouth of a patient for long durations. These will constantly apply pressure on the teeth and jaws till the problem are fixed and the appliances are removed. Fixed Appliance Treatment: How Can Las Vegas Orthodontists Help?

Some of the main fixed appliances that Las Vegas orthodontics use are-

Braces: these are the most commonly used fixed appliance. These consist of bands, wires, and brackets which are adjusted every month to get the desired results.

Bands are fixed around the tooth (or teeth) which need to be fixed and these act as anchors for the appliance. Brackets are bonded to the front of these tooth/teeth.

Arch wires attached to the bands pass through the brackets and when these wires are tightened they apply pressure on the teeth and push them towards the desired positions.

These days, braces are available in bright colors for kids and in transparent models for adults.

Fixed Space Maintainers: If a baby tooth falls off too early, one of these appliances are used to keep the gap open till the permanent tooth appears.

In the absence of these, the other teeth with close in together and the new teeth will not have enough space to grow properly. This will cause the new teeth to go crooked and push nearby teeth out of alignment.

The fixed space maintainer is put in place by attaching a band to the tooth nearest to the empty space. Then, a wire is stretched to the tooth on the other side of the space.

Special Fixed Appliances: These are appliances used on children to discourage thumb-sucking or tongue thrusting. These are put into place using bands and they make it very uncomfortable to eat. Thus, these are only used if nothing else works
